MIRPURKHAS: Citizens from Mirpurkhas as well as various organisations held protests against the on-going violence against Myanmar’s Muslim Rohingya
community, here on Sunday.
The protestors were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the silence of Muslim rulers on the issue and demanded a UN
intervention to put a halt to the violence against the Rohingyas. The rally started at the Mirpurkhas Railway Station and culminated at the Mirpurkhas Press Club.
One of the protesters, named Tahir Rajput addressed the demonstration and highlighted the atrocities happening in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, stating that even women, children and t
he elderly weren’t safe from the violence. Mr. Rajput criticized the UN, the
international
community, the Organiza
tion of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Pakistani government for not doing enough to raise the issue at an
international level and urged the Pakistani government to do more.
However he appre
ciated the Turkish government for its efforts to help the Rohingya
community.
