BAHAWALPUR: Minister of State and Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairperson MNA MarviMemon visited Bahawalpur on Monday to inspect BISP’s new poverty survey registr
ation sites, payment points and workings of the Municipal Corporation.
While interacting with people who came for registration, the minister stated that f
eedback from general public is crucial for the successful and timely
completion of resurvey for National Socioeconomic Registry (NSER) update.
She said the pilot phase of the resurvey started from Haripur in June followed by Bahawalpur in September and Sukkur and Naseerabad in October, adding that
BISP has so far registered 522
,018 households in these four districts.
“Till date, 60,539 households in Haripur, 263,846 in Bahawalpur, 149,218 in Sukkur and 48,415 in Naseerabad have been registered,” she claimed, adding that in Bahawalpur,
BISP has set up 213 counters at 97 sites in collabor
ation with NADRA, where 60% of the expected registrations have been
completed against the estimated caseload of 467,527.
Meanwhile, in a meeting with Mayor Aqeel Najam Hashmi, local government members and politicians, the BISP chairperson informed that desk approach is scheduled to be closed in most of the places by end of January.
She sought their f
eedback on the progress of NSER and suggestions for enhancing registr
ation of the remaining population. During the meeting, it was decided that some registr
ation desks may be shifted to other locations where people are yet to be registered. Shifting of these desks would not only expedite the registr
ation process, but would also help facilitate public at large, she concluded.
